Paharpur Buddhist Monastery

Paharpur Buddhist Monastery:

Paharpur Buddhist Monastery is a famous & tourist attractive place of

Bangladesh

. It is located at Naogaon District in Rajshahi Division. King Dharma Pal established Paharpur Buddhist Monastery in 7th century. It is the most important and the largest known monastery south of the Himalayas, has been excavated. The main Mandir is in the center of this Monastery. There is a museum , where tourists can see the statues of Buddha and Vishnu. The excavated findings have also been preserved at the Varendra Research Museum at Rajshahi. The antiquities of the museum include terracotta plaques, images of different gods and goddesses, potteries, coins, inscriptions, ornamental bricks etc. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

Mahasthangarh

Mahasthangarh is one of the main attractions in

. It is situated in Shibganj, Bogra. Mahasthangarh was the site of Pundranagar. About four thousand years ago Pundranagar was an affluent and strong settlement. It was the capital of the Mourjo, the Gupta and the Sen Dynasty. The old city was about 2000 metres long and 1500 metres wide and was surrounded by a wall. Mahasthangarh Stands on the western bank of the river Korotoa. There are some elevated places near Mahasthangarh. These places are known as Vitas, Kundus, Ghous and Dhaps. One part of the river is known as the ghat of Kankabati. There is a museum at Mahasthangarh. Some images, dice, ornaments and pots excavated from Mahasthangarh have been kept in the museum.
